MARSHALL — Homecoming weekend is already a time for celebration at Southwest Minnesota State University, but this year there’s also going to be something new in the mix. Country-rocker Tyler Farr will be performing Sept. 29 as part of Prairie Jam, a new concert event hosted by Visit Marshall.

The concert will take place at Schwan’s Regional Event Center on the university campus.

“Visit Marshall is excited to host an event that the community can enjoy, but also bring people in to our community to make an economic impact,” said Cassi Weiss, director of Visit Marshall.

Tickets for Prairie Jam go on sale today.

Weiss said holding a concert event was something the organization had wanted to do. Farr was also “a perfect fit” for the event, she said.

“Everyone is very excited about it,” she said.

Farr has three No. 1 hit songs to his credit, including “Redneck Crazy,” “Whiskey In My Water,” and “A Guy Walks Into a Bar.” Farr released his debut album in 2013, and the record landed at No. 2 on the Billboard country albums chart and at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200.

Farr will take the stage at Prairie Jam at 7 p.m. on Sept. 29. Whiskey Rich, a South Dakota-based duo, will open the show around 6:15 p.m.

Prairie Jam was made possible with partnership from SMSU, Weiss said.

“The partnership with SMSU is substantial for us to make this event work,” she said.

Visit Marshall hopes to sell around 2,000 tickets for the concert. While there won’t be seating on the field at the Event Center this year, Weiss said it might be a possibility for future concerts. Visit Marshall hopes to make Prairie Jam an annual event.

Ticket prices for Prairie Jam will be $25 for SMSU students, $35 for general admission, and $45 for reserved seats. More details can be found online at visitmarshallmn.com/prairie-jam.
