MARSHALL — Marshall Public Schools has named Mitchell Grunig to take on the activity director position starting July 1.

“We are excited to welcome Mitch and his family to our community. Mitch comes to us with a wealth of student experience and great enthusiasm for activities,” said MPS Superintendent Jeremy Williams.

Grunig’s most recent role was as activities director and dean of students at Kaleidoscope Charter School in Otsego.

Grunig and his wife, Brittany, have an 1-year-old daughter.

Current MPS Activities Director Rick Purrington said last month that he had declined to continue his contract in that position. Instead, he’ll be returning to teaching in the upcoming school year.

“I want to thank Rick Purrington for filling in over the past year,” Williams said. “He stepped into this position at a difficult time but brought a positive attitude and a strong work ethic. While we will miss him in this role but the students are excited to have him back in the classroom.”
