Vesta fire truck hit by semi at crash scene

VESTA — A Vesta fire truck was hit by a semi Wednesday night while the Vesta Fire Department was responding to a crash on Minnesota Highway 19.

The fire department was one of the agencies called out to a single-vehicle rollover crash south of Vesta around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, the city of Vesta said. The Fire Department was providing traffic control at the accident scene, when a semi truck ran into a Vesta Fire and Rescue pickup.

Photos posted on the city of Vesta’s Facebook page Wednesday night showed damage to the passenger side and door of the pickup. According to the city’s post, a Vesta firefighter was inside the pickup at the time of the collision.

In a news release, the city of Vesta said there were no major injuries from the incident, and people with minor injuries were treated and released. The incident is currently under investigation, the city said.

The Redwood County Sheriff’s Office said there were also no injuries to the driver in the rollover crash firefighters were responding to. A 2006 Acura driven by Matia Rose Person, 22, of Elk River, was westbound on Highway 19 when Person lost control due to ice on the road.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Vesta First Responders, the Vesta and Milroy Fire Departments, Wabasso Ambulance and the Minnesota State Patrol.
