Hwy. 59 repair project nearly complete

MARSHALL — Concrete repairs on U.S. Highway 59 in Lyon and Murray County are nearly complete, the Minnesota Department of Transportation said Thursday.

A detour that was in place between U.S. Highway 14 and Highway 30 has been lifted, MnDOT said.

Work crews are still finishing road striping and other parts of the construction, so drivers are urged to use caution in the work zone.

The work on Highway 59 repaired areas of damaged concrete, as well as using a process called diamond grinding to make the road surface smoother. Areas of the $1.7 million project that have been fully or partially completed include segments of Highway 59 from U.S. Highway 14 to Lyon County Road 14 in Garvin; from County Road 14 to 241st Street; and from Highway 30 to 201st Street in Murray County.

The project originally included replacement of deteriorated concrete along Highway 59 in Marshall. However, the work was scaled back as crews encountered more repairs than were originally estimated, MnDOT said. Not enough funding was available to repair the entire planned stretch of roadway.

Concrete repairs on the segment of Highway 59 running from Minnesota Highway 23 in Marshall to Lyon County Road 6 have been postponed, as have repairs on Highway 59 between 241st Street and 201st Street.
