Car collides with semi on Hwy. 23; two injured

RUSSELL — Two people were injured in a crash involving a car and a semi truck Monday evening at Minnesota Highway 23 and Highway 91.

A Montevideo woman was transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center with life-threatening injuries, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The crash was reported at 5:14 p.m., the State Patrol said. A Chrysler 200 driven by Xaiveor Mikhail West, 21, of Granite Falls, was traveling northbound on Highway 23 when it collided with a southbound Peterbilt semi driven by Kody Dean Poeckes, 26, of Sioux Center, Iowa.

West received non life-threatening injuries and was transported to Avera Marshall. A passenger in West’s vehicle, 22-year-old Jennifer Jade Labatt, of Montevideo, was also transported to Avera Marshall with life-threatening injuries, the State Patrol said.

Balaton Fire and Ambulance, Russell Fire and First Responders, Tyler Ambulance, North Memorial Ambulance and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office all responded at the crash scene.
