Area residents and members of the Marshall Area Dementia Awareness Network (MADAN) gathered for a moment of silence at Memorial Park on Tuesday evening. Above: MADAN member Jaen Weilage released a single purple balloon. She encouraged everyone present to recall people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia who had gone before them, people who are currently coping with dementia, and their caregivers.

After the gathering in the park, people split up to tie purple ribbons for dementia awareness around trees and light poles downtown.
