One COVID-19 death reported in Lyon Co.
MARSHALL — The death of a Lyon County resident from COVID-19 was reported Friday, even as the number of COVID cases in Minnesota has been trending downward.
The Minnesota Department of Health reported the death of a Lyon County resident in their late 70s. In total, 52 Lyon County residents have died of COVID-19. There have also been a total of 3,443 confirmed cases among Lyon County residents since the start of the pandemic, MDH data said.
On Friday, the MDH reported a total of 21 deaths statewide, and 576 confirmed new cases of COVID-19 statewide. MDH data showed that the number of new confirmed cases in Minnesota has been going down over the past few weeks, after an increase in early April.
COVID-19 vaccines are still available at pharmacies and health care providers in Lyon County. The MDH said 56% of Lyon County residents age 16 and older, for a total of 11,202 people, have received at least one dose of the vaccine. Among people age 65 and older, the vaccination rate is higher, with 95% of Lyon County seniors receiving vaccines.
Statewide, more than 2.8 million people have received COVID-19 vaccines, MDH data said.
