Two injured in Thursday crash

COTTONWOOD — Two people were seriously injured in a Thursday night crash where a vehicle struck a utility pole, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

A 37-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, both from Elysian, were transported to hospitals in Sioux Falls and Robbinsdale.

The crash was reported around 8:22 p.m., on the 3300 block of Lyon County Road 10 near Cottonwood, the Sheriff’s Office said. A single vehicle appeared to have left the roadway and hit an electrical utility pole by the side of the road.

The driver of the vehicle, Daniel Fleming, 37, and passenger Melissa Lindquist, 40, were trapped inside the damaged vehicle and needed to be extricated by firefighters. Fleming and Lindquist were both transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center, and later airlifted to other hospitals, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Further information on Fleming and Lindquist’s conditions was not available, the Sheriff’s Office said. The circumstances of the crash are still under investigation.

The Cottonwood Fire Department, Cottonwood Ambulance, and the Minnesota State Patrol all responded at the crash scene.
