New COVID-19 deaths reported in Redwood, Lyon counties

MARSHALL — Two new deaths from COVID-19 were reported in southwest Minnesota on Thursday, the Minnesota Department of Health said.

A Lyon County resident and a Redwood County resident, both in their 80s, were among a dozen deaths reported statewide.

At the same time, new confirmed cases of COVID-19 were rising in Lyon County, according to MDH data. On Thursday, a total of 21 new cases and four probable cases of COVID-19 were reported among Lyon County residents.

The new data brings Lyon County’s total COVID-19 deaths to 48, and the total number of confirmed cases to 3,182. There have also been 137 probable cases among Lyon County residents.

Redwood County had 16 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported on Thursday, the MDH said. Redwood County has had a total of 1,515 confirmed cases since the start of the pandemic. There have been 58 probable cases and 35 deaths.

COVID case numbers have been gradually rising again across Minnesota, after a February low, according to MDH data. Over 1,700 confirmed new cases were reported on Thursday, the MDH said. So far, a total of 491,554 Minnesotans have tested positive for COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and 6,860 people have died.
