One shot in domestic dispute near Prairie’s Edge

GRANITE FALLS — A Willmar woman is in stable condition and a Morton man is in custody after a shooting Monday night, the Upper Sioux Police Department said.

Around 11:15 p.m., law enforcement and security staff at Prairie’s Edge Casino Resort were alerted to a couple who left the casino in a vehicle after having a possible domestic dispute in the parking lot. Around 11:30, there was an additional report of a 31-year-old woman from Willmar arriving at the Avera Granite Falls emergency room with a gunshot wound to her leg, Upper Sioux Police said.

The woman told law enforcement that she and her boyfriend, a 41-year-old man from Morton, were the ones involved in the domestic dispute at the casino, Upper Sioux Police said.

According to the gunshot victim, her boyfriend had threatened her with the gun in the casino parking lot, and forced her into a vehicle when he saw officers approaching. He drove them away from the scene, and while they were traveling down Prairies Edge Lane, the woman was was shot in the leg, Upper Sioux Police said.

A region-wide alert was put out to locate the shooting suspect and the vehicle, Police said. Within minutes, officers located the vehicle at a residence in Granite Falls. The suspect was located in Granite Falls with another female individual around 3 a.m., and was taken into custody, Upper Sioux Police said.

The weapon believed to have been used in the shooting was recovered, and the suspect is being held at the Yellow Medicine County jail pending felony charges, Police said.

The shooting victim was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center for further treatment, but is in stable condition, Upper Sioux Police said.

The Upper Sioux Police Department was assisted in the incident by Granite Falls Police and the Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Department.
