Alcorn, Sturrock to chair Lyon Co. Republicans

MARSHALL — The Lyon County Republicans chose new officers at last weekend’s county convention. But while Debbie Clark and Layle French are stepping down after many years as county Republican co-chairs, there will still be a good mix of experience and new faces in the committee, party officials said.

“It’s good to have continuity that way,” said John Alcorn. Alcorn and David Sturrock were chosen to serve as co-chairmen of the Lyon County Republicans, but Clark and French will still be part of the organization. “We haven’t lost any of the leadership.”

There will also be some new committee members bringing in new ideas, he said. At Saturday’s county convention Trudy Madetzke was chosen as Lyon County Republicans secretary, and John Rabaey as treasurer. County Commissioner Districts 1-5 will be represented by Carolyn Bayerkohler, Layle French, Debbie Clark, Rick Konold and Don Bethune. New at-large members are Paul Lanoue, Chad Louwagie, Ed Raff, Braxton Seifert and Dan Zimansky.

Alcorn said the job ahead for members of the county committee is to prepare for the midterm elections.

“We’re planning for 2022, and we’re going to work hard to deliver a strong vote for all Republican candidates,” Alcorn said. He said Republicans will be looking forward to supporting the re-election of Republican candidates ranging from national legislators like Sen. Michelle Fischbach, to state lawmakers like Sen. Gary Dahms and Rep. Chris Swedzinski.
