Two new COVID-19 deaths reported in Lyon County

MARSHALL -- Two more Lyon County residents have died of COVID-19, the Minnesota Department of Health said Thursday.

The MDH reported two people, both in their 80s, have died. The report brings the total of COVID deaths among Lyon County residents to 26.

There have also been new deaths reported in Redwood, Renville and Yellow Medicine Counties, the MDH said. The reported deaths included a Redwood County resident in their 90s, a Renville County resident in their 90s, and a Yellow Medicine County resident in their 80s.

Statewide, a total of 2,355 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported Thursday, and a total of 83 deaths. Minnesota has had more than 389,000 confirmed cases and 4,658 deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Lyon County has had a total of 2,618 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 45 suspected cases since the start of the pandemic, MDH data said.

As of Wednesday, there were a total of 289 people with COVID-19 in Minnesota intensive care beds, and 933 people in non-ICU beds, according to the state COVID-19 response dashboard.

Dashboard data showed hospitals around Minnesota were relatively full.

In southwest Minnesota, only about a third of the region's adult ICU beds were available, and about 22% of non-ICU beds were available.
