Woman airlifted after shooting in Winthrop Monday

New Ulm Journal

WINTHROP — A woman in her early 20s was airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC) Monday after authorities found her with multiple gunshot wounds on the 300 block of West 3rd Street early Monday morning.

The Sibley County Sheriff’s Office dispatch received a call about an assault involving a firearm on 3rd Street in Winthrop at 12:18 a.m. Monday.

The sheriff’s office and Winthrop Ambulance responded and transported the victim to New Ulm Medical Center. She was later airlifted to HCMC in Minneapolis for further treatment.

No arrests have been made at this time, according to a Sibley County Sheriff’s Office news release. Law enforcement does not believe the shooting was random and that the public is not in danger.

Authorities are asking for anyone that may have information about the shooting or anyone that may have surveillance cameras in the area to contact the sheriff’s office at 507-237-4330 or Winthrop Police at 507-647-5500.

The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension (BCA) Special Agents and Crime Scene Team were called to assist with the investigation. New Ulm, Gaylord and Henderson Police also assisted.
