Third COVID-19 death reported in Murray County

A third person has died of COVID-19 in Murray County, the Minnesota Department of Health said Friday. The MDH said a Murray County resident and a Pipestone County resident were among the 10 newly reported deaths across the state.

In Lyon County, more than a dozen new positive COVID-19 cases were reported on Friday. While complete results aren’t in yet, it’s possible that new case tallies will be affected by a community testing event that wrapped up Thursday in Marshall.

On Friday, the MDH reported 1,184 new COVID-19 cases across the state, and 10 deaths. That tally included a Murray County resident in their late 90s, and a Pipestone County resident in their 80s. Friday’s report makes three total COVID-19 deaths reported in Murray County. There have been 185 total positive cases reported among Murray County residents.

Pipestone County has had a total of 13 deaths from COVID-19, and 255 total cases, the MDH said.

So far, most counties in the region around Marshall have reported deaths from COVID-19. Lyon County has had four deaths; Redwood County has had six deaths; and Yellow Medicine County has had three deaths.

The MDH reported 13 new cases of COVID-19 in Lyon County on Friday. Lyon County now has a cumulative total of 756 positive cases.

More cases may be reported in the days ahead, after a community testing event in Marshall this week.

The free testing event started Tuesday and ended Thursday in Marshall. The full results wouldn’t be in right away, but Katie Knutson, the incident commander for the Marshall community testing, said 24 to 72 hours was the expected turnaround time for tests from the event.

Starting at $3.95/week.
