One killed in house explosion near Marshall

MARSHALL — One person was killed and one was injured in a house explosion east of Marshall this morning, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department said. The explosion is under active investigation, with fire, EMS and law enforcement on the scene.

Around 6:37 a.m., an explosion was reported about 2 miles east of Marshall on Minnesota Highway 19. Local residents reported hearing or feeling the blast as far away as Marshall. Firefighters and emergency medical responders found a house explosion on the 2800 block of Highway 19 east of town, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Casualties were found at the scene. An adult male was pronounced dead at the scene, and an adult female was transported to Avera Marshall Medical Center for injuries sustained in the explosion. The cause of the explosion is unknown at this time. The Sheriff’s Office said onlookers are asked to stay clear of the scene until the investigation and recovery can be completed.
