First COVID-19 death reported in Murray Co.

MURRAY COUNTY — The Minnesota Department of Health reported Friday that a Murray County resident has died of COVID-19. It is the first death from the virus reported in Murray County.

The MDH does not release details that could identify individual people, for medical privacy reasons. However, the MDH did say the Murray County resident who died was between the ages of 90 and 99. A total of five new COVID-19 deaths were reported Friday, including the Murray County resident. The deaths included a Dakota County resident in their 60s, a Hennepin County resident in their 70s, a Scott County resident in their 80s, and a St. Louis County resident who was 100 years old or older.

Three of the newly reported deaths were people living in private residences, and two were residents in long-term care or assisted living facilities, the MDH said.

Two new cases were reported in Murray County. Murray County has had a total of 110 positive COVID-19 cases, the MDH reported.

New positive cases of COVID-19 were reported in other area counties on Friday as well, the MDH said. Lyon County had three new cases; Yellow Medicine County and Redwood County each had one new case; and Pipestone County had four new cases.
