Polls open today for presidential primary
MARSHALL — Polls open today around Minnesota for presidential primary voting. However, in Lyon County, close to 800 residents already got a chance to cast their ballots, either through absentee voting or mail-in voting.
Polls were open for early voting on Saturday at the Lyon County Government Center. As of Saturday afternoon, a total of 792 absentee and mail-in votes were accepted, said Lyon County Auditor/Treasurer E.J. Moberg. The turnout so far, based on Lyon County’s 13,545 registered voters, is 5.85%, Moberg said.
Most of that total came from mail-in ballots, from the 16 Lyon County precincts that have switched to mail ballots only, Moberg said. As of Saturday, Lyon County had accepted 673 mail ballots and 119 absentee ballots. Mail ballot precincts have had 27.51% of their registered voters return accepted ballots, he said.
Absentee voting ended at 5 p.m. Monday. However, Moberg said the Lyon County Government Center in Marshall will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. today for voters within the mail ballot precincts. Mail ballot precincts include the cities of Florence, Garvin, Ghent, and Taunton; and Amiret, Coon Creek, Custer, Eidsvold, Fairview, Grandview, Lake Marshall, Lucas, Shelburne, Sodus, Stanley and Vallers townships.
