LAC QUI PARLE COUNTY -- Schools in the Lac qui Parle Valley school district were closed for the second day in a row on Friday, as law enforcement and school administrators investigate a threatening message at Lac qui Parle Valley High School.
The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff's Office said Friday morning that there were no new updates on the incident. A Thursday press release from Sheriff Allen Anderson and LQPV Superintendent Greg Schmidt said the Sheriff's Office is leading the investigation of the incident.
A threatening message was discovered after school at LQPV High School on Wednesday, the release said. Because of the timing of the threat's discovery, the school district opted to close the high school and elementary schools on Thursday and Friday.
The school district is making immediate changes to enhance security and ensure the safety of students and staff, the release said.
In Wednesday night posting on the LQPV Schools Facebook page, school officials asked residents not to call the school district to ask for more details on the situation.
Students at LQPV schools had a virtual learning day on Friday, the school district said.
This week's incident is not the first time a possible threat had been reported at LQPV Schools. In January, the Sheriff's Office reported it had received a complaint of a threat at the high school, to "shoot up school on 02-28-2020."
The threat had been written on the door of a bathroom stall.
In a Feb. 3 press release, the Sheriff's Office said the student who wrote the message had been identified, and confessed to writing it.
The Sheriff's Office said that student had acted alone and was no longer considered to be a threat.
