Swedzinski foresees surplus will lead way for tax relief

ST. PAUL — Rep. Chris Swedzinski, R-Ghent, released a statement after Tuesday’s opening session of the 2020 Legislature proclaiming that the state’s $1.3 billion surplus sets the stage for tax relief this year.

“It’s really good to be back in St. Paul working on behalf of folks from southwestern Minnesota,” Swedzinski said. “We’ve got a lot of work to do. We have a potential bonding bill, and then also will be dealing with the surplus. We’ve done a very diligent job of putting money away in the rainy day fund and our biggest job is going to be returning those dollars to the folks who earned them.

“The Section 179 exchange fixes, Social Security and those types of taxes that we need to be looking at eliminating in the state of Minnesota. Our focus this session is really going to be getting government to be responsible with the dollars they have.”

In his release, Swedzinski invites correspondence from District 16A residents during the session by calling 651-296-5374 or email rep.chris.swedzinski@house.mn.
