Canby man killed in Highway 75 crash

CANBY — The Minnesota State Patrol has identified a Canby man who died after a head-on crash with a semi truck on U.S. Highway 75 north of Canby on Saturday.

The crash was reported at 5:27 a.m. in Hammer Township, Yellow Medicine County. Sigmund Delano Armitage, 81, was southbound on Highway 75 when his 2007 Toyota Prius collided with a northbound Kenworth semi driven by Dean Allan Anderson, 56, of Campbell, Minnesota. Armitage was not wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol said. Armitage was taken to Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, where he died. Anderson was not injured in the crash.

The state patrol said road conditions at the time of the crash were snowy and icy.

The Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office and Canby Fire and Ambulance all responded at the scene of the crash.
