Snow not likely to stick around this weekend

MARSHALL — The Marshall area had a chance at a snowy Halloween night, but it wasn’t likely to accumulate, according to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls.

“We’re basically looking at just light snow,” said meteorologist Janice Maldonado. The flakes in the Marshall area would probably add up to less than half an inch, she said.

The chances for light snow in the region would mostly start after midnight Thursday, and linger into early this morning, Maldonado said. The NWS forecast a chance of rain and snow throughout the day today, with wind gusts as high as 25 miles per hour.

However, conditions didn’t look like they would favor the snow sticking around. The high temperature today will be around 39 degrees, Maldonado said, so the snow would melt.

NWS forecasts said daytime temperatures would stay in the 40s this weekend, with a high of 46 degrees on Sunday. Conditions on Saturday and Sunday will be mostly to partly sunny. There will be a chance for rain and snow on Sunday night into Monday, but temperatures Monday will reach about 42 degrees.
