Area to observe Veterans Day with numerous programs

MARSHALL — Southwest Minnesota residents will be joining people across the country in observing Veterans Day on Monday. Area communities will be holding programs, meals and other events honoring U.S. military service members. In Marshall, the day will include a special look at the meaning in the folds of the U.S. flag, during a program at the Adult Community Center.

Marshall’s Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the ACC. Ken Versaevel will lead a flag-folding ceremony, and local participants in this year’s Boys and Girls State will also speak.

A noon lunch will follow the program, at the Marshall American Legion.

Other area communities will also be observing Veterans Day on Monday. The schedule of programs includes:

Balaton

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Balaton Community Center. From 7-9:30 a.m., veterans can have a free breakfast at the Balaton One Stop (formerly Benson’s by the Lake).

Canby

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Canby High School gym.

Cottonwood

A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. in the Lakeview School gymnasium. The program will include patriotic music from the Lakeview concert band and choir.

Hendricks

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Hendricks Public School.

Ivanhoe

A Veterans Day program will be held at 9:30 a.m. at Lincoln Elementary School.

Lake Benton

A Veterans Day program will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Lake Benton Public School.

Lynd

A Veterans Day program will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Lynd Public School. The keynote speaker will be Ryan Rathman.

Milroy

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. at the Milroy School. The program will include speaking parts and music by students and teachers. Following the program, veterans and community members are invited to have lunch, coffee and cookies.

Minneota

A Veterans Day program will be held at 11 a.m. in the main gymnasium at Minneota Public School.

Russell

A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. at RTR Middle School. The program will feature a slide show presentation of veterans with connections to the school.

Ruthton

A Veterans Day program will be held at 9 a.m. at RTR Elementary School.

Tracy

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10:30 a.m. at Tracy Area High School. The program will honor Jim Donner, Otto Nyquist and Norman DeBlieck, and a Veterans Day presentation will be given by Pastor Chuck Anderson. The program will also include patriotic music by the TAHS band and choir.

A Veterans Day dinner will be held at noon at the Tracy American Legion post. Meat and buns will be provided at the dinner, and people attending are asked to bring a dish to pass.

Tyler

A Veterans Day program will be held at 1 p.m. at RTR High School.

A dinner and program will also be held at 6:30 p.m., at the Tyler American Legion Hall. The meal will be catered by the Kronborg Inn, and will be $15 at the door.

Walnut Grove

A Veterans Day program will be held at 2 p.m. at Westbrook-Walnut Grove Elementary.

Westbrook

A Veterans Day program will be held at 10 a.m. at Westbrook-Walnut Grove High School.
