Guns, generator stolen in weekend Cottonwood thefts

COTTONWOOD — Guns were stolen from a Cottonwood residence in one of two theft and burglary incidents reported over the weekend, the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Sheriff’s Office is reminding area residents to lock their homes and garages, and not to leave valuables in places where they are visible.

The Sheriff’s Office reported two different thefts in Cottonwood, one on Friday afternoon and one on Sunday morning. At 12:37 p.m. Friday, a burglary where guns were stolen was reported on the 400 block of West First Street South. Then, at 10:44 a.m. Sunday, a generator was reported stolen on the 600 block of Old Highway 17.

Sheriff Eric Wallen said there have been a variety of different items stolen in Cottonwood over the past week from locations like porches or unlocked garages. He said residents should remember to lock their doors and vehicles, and avoid leaving valuable items where they could be easily seen or stolen.

The Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone with information on the incidents to call 537-7666.
