TRACY — The annual mud volleyball tournament was a favorite for many at the 92nd Boxcar days on Sunday.

Jessica Lamb from Tracy came with her friends — Shaylene Hericks, Tabvitha Rikke, and Ashlynn Wabeke — from Tyler and Rosendale to scope out the competition.

“I’ve played the last couple years, and it’s super fun but the water looks like its going to be really cold,” Lamb said. “It’s hard to move when you’re in there especially as the day goes on the mud gets super slick.”

Theresa Przybilla, from Tracy sitting with her friend, Shelby Gravley from Cottonwood was watching her sister, Monica, play mud volleyball. Przybilla said that she attends Boxcar days every year with her family.

“Its just a way to get together with our families,” Przybilla said.

“The teams register with the chamber and it fills up super super fast,” Lexi Erickson, the director of Tracy Area Chamber of Commerce.

Erickson said that a percentage of the fees to play are given to the first, second, and third places winners and the rest is put in the Boxcar days fund for next year.

Erickson said that the mud volleyball has been held at the Caboose in town for the past five years.

“We also have Dale Johnson the third come up and dig the holes for us and the fire department fills them with the fire trucks,” Erickson said. “I grew up here and boxcar days has always been my favorite weekend of the year.”

Other events that brought crowds was the Kiddie Parade sponsored by Above the Fold Publishing LLC on Saturday. Kids ages 12 and under were invited to dress up and participate in the parade.

“We changed it up a little this year so instead of having categories that we judged we kinda just had two categories, so boxcar theme and anything they wanted to be,” said Tara Brandl, with Above the Fold.

Each kid received a ride ticket and prize for participating in the kiddie parade.

“It’s more about the kids getting to dress up and have fun,” Brandl said.

This year the Tracy Area Drumline lead the kiddie parade unlike past years. “I like seeing the kids, they’re so cute and excited and usually they love showing their costumes off,” Brandl said.

Molly and Ryan Peterson’s son, Maxwell, dressed up as a t-rex for the parade, because of his love for dinosaurs.

“He’s a 4 year old who’s just obsesses with dinosaurs,” Peterson said.

Peterson and Maxwell came up with the idea for their cart the week before and she said they spent about an hour putting it together.

Joyce Robbins who grew up in Marshall comes to Tracy every year for Boxcar days was at inflatables and bungee trampolines in central park on Sunday with her daughter, Christal Buesking and grandchildren, Olivia and Sophie Buesking.

“It’s a family tradition for years and years,” Robbins said. “My parents always brought the family down, since I was little girl so now it’s a family tradition.”
