Harvest Festival to sizzle with grilling competition

PORTER — Fire up the grills.

The Porter Harvest Festival is this weekend and that means the grilling competition will be held Sunday at Schoneman Memorial Park Shelter starting at 1:30 p.m.

According to one of the festival organizers, Josh Sumption, the grilling competition has become one of the favorite events for more than a decade. He said anything goes as grillers can barbecue everything from appetizers to meats and vegetables.

“They sell the plates of food and people go around and pick up samples of each creation,” Sumption said. “It’s a people’s choice award. Whoever gets the most votes wins.”
