Fiber optic cable damage causes phone outage

Phone service was down for some area customers from Tuesday afternoon until mid-morning Wednesday. Hy-Vee Pharmacy was among those affected by the loss of service.

Customers were not able to get through to the pharmacists until Wednesday morning when phone service was restored.

Christina Gayman, Hy-Vee spokeswoman, said all customers were served.

“The pharmacists had to work off of Wi-Fi Tuesday evening and were back online today,” she said.

A CenturyLink fiber optic cable near Minneota was reported to have been cut Tuesday and was fixed by Wednesday morning.
