RUTHTON — A semi trailer hauling a section of wind tower was hit by a train near Ruthton Wednesday afternoon, a spokesperson for the BNSF Railroad said Thursday.

The incident is currently under investigation by the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office. However, no injuries were reported in the crash, said Amy McBeth, Minnesota public affairs director for BNSF.

The crash happened around 4 p.m. Wednesday on 170th Avenue near Ruthton, McBeth said. A train struck a semi that was hauling an oversize load, with a section of a wind tower base.

The railway line was temporarily closed while responders were at the scene. BNSF officers worked together with the Pipestone County Sheriff’s Office, McBeth said.
