Texas man pleads guilty to burglary, theft in Marshall

MARSHALL — A Texas man has pleaded guilty to three felony charges in connection with incidents of theft and property damage in Marshall last month.

In a hearing in Lyon County District Court on Tuesday, Gerardo Granados, 22, of Dallas, admitted to breaking into a shed outside Marshall Middle School on June 13, and stealing a pickup truck and lawn care equipment belonging to the school. Granados said he also stole a second pickup truck to drive back to the motel he was staying at in Marshall.

Attorneys at Granados’ hearing said they had reached a plea agreement. Granados would plead guilty to third degree burglary, and two counts of motor vehicle theft. Under the terms of the plea agreement, Granados’ prison sentence would be stayed, and he would have probation with terms including that he serve time in jail and pay fines and restitution. However, attorneys said the exact terms of the sentence have not been officially set yet.

At the hearing, Granados admitted to breaking into the shed at the middle school, and stealing a number of items as well as the two pickup trucks. A criminal complaint said Granados drove one truck through the door of the shed at the school and later abandoned that truck and took another. At the hearing, Granados said he found the keys of the second truck inside a cupholder.

The court ordered a pre-sentencing investigation, and set a sentencing hearing for Granados on Sept. 17.
