CANBY — A 21-month-old child was killed Saturday after being run over by a vehicle on private property just north of Canby, according to the Lac qui Parle County Sheriff’s Department.

A news release says the incident was the result of an accident and foul play is not suspected. The release stated that a 2010 GMC Acadia ran over the child, who was transported to Sanford Canby Medical Center and then pronounced dead.

According to the Sheriff’s Department, the accident was reported at 6:10 p.m. on private property in Freeland Township, Lac qui Parle County.

The Lac qui Parle County Sheriff’s Department and Midwest Medical Examiner’s office are investigating the incident. The Canby Police Department, Yellow Medicine County Sheriff’s Office and Sanford Canby Ambulance assisted at the scene.
