Ritter, Graupmann re-elected to Lyon County Board; Wallen elected sheriff

MARSHALL — County Commissioner Steve Ritter was re-elected in Lyon County’s one contested commissioner race Tuesday night. Ritter said he was looking forward to serving the county and representing County Commissioner District 2.

“I want to thank all the people who supported me,” Ritter said.

Ritter received 64 percent of the vote in Commissioner District 2, with an unofficial total of 1,362 votes. Challenger Al Kruse received 741 votes.

Ritter said it was good to have competition in the District 2 race this year. “It’s good for people to have a choice,” he said.

Ritter said he has also enjoyed working with the other members of the Lyon County Board. In the next year, he said, the county will have to look at some upcoming issues like addressing broadband Internet access, and replacing faded rural street signs.

The District 2 race wasn’t the only Lyon County Commissioner race on Tuesday. However, Commissioner District 3’s race was uncontested. Commissioner Paul Graupmann was re-elected, with a total of 1,606 votes.

Voters also decided on other county races Tuesday. Eric Wallen, the last remaining candidate campaigning for Lyon County Sheriff, won with an unofficial total of 6,491 votes. Jim Marshall, who dropped out of the sheriff’s race after ballots were finalized, still received 2,877 votes. Earlier this fall, Marshall said he would stop campaigning for sheriff, because he had accepted a position as police chief in the city of Marshall.

Lyon County Attorney Rick Maes was re-elected, with 8,560 votes. Maes was running uncontested for re-election.
