Marshall man arrested in pot bust

MARSHALL — A Marshall man was arrested this week after a package of marijuana was recovered at a Marshall address, law enforcement said.

On Tuesday, the Brown-Lyon-Redwood-Renville Drug Task Force was contacted by the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport Police regarding a package they had intercepted, the B.L.R.R. Drug Task Force said. The package contained about 10 pounds of marijuana.

After that, the Minneapolis-St. Paul Airport Police, Marshall Police, and the Lyon County Sheriff’s Department all worked with the B.L.R.R. Drug Task Force to do a controlled delivery of the package in Marshall. The Drug Task Force said a search warrant was later executed at the address where the package was delivered. The package of marijuana was recovered in the search, as well as items of drug paraphernalia, the Drug Task Force said.

As a result of the search, Omar Yanez, Jr., 22, was arrested and charged with two counts of fifth degree controlled substance crime — both felonies — and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia, a petty misdemeanor.

Yanez made his first appearance in Lyon County District Court on Wednesday, court records said. Bail was set at $15,000 without conditions, or $5,000 with conditions including not leaving Minnesota, abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and not entering bars or liquor stores.

A hearing date for Yanez was set for Dec. 4, court records said.
