More room to move at new Southwest Nutrition location
MARSHALL — It took a long time to make it happen, but Southwest Nutrition’s move into a bigger location in downtown Marshall is already having positive results.
Not long after the nutrition and fitness club officially opened at its new Main Street address, people were gathered at the bar to have nutritious shakes or teas. Kari Morisette said that was part of what Southwest Nutrition owners hoped would happen — with enough space, people would have an easier time dropping by the club.
“It’s so nice and centrally located,” Morisette said of the Main Street spot. People can walk in, and many do, she said.
Southwest Nutrition started out at a location on Third Street in Marshall. Owners Dan and Kari Morisette, and Kyle and Whitney Mooney, are Herbalife distributors offering a variety of products geared toward nutrition.
“We’re completely aimed at nutrition,” Kyle Mooney said, although club members can also work to meet personal goals like building muscle or managing weight.
Things were going well at the Third Street location, Kari Morisette said. “We just kept getting busier and busier,” she said, but space was getting too tight for very many people to gather, or even to sit and drink a shake. It was time to look for a bigger club location, she said.
“We had been looking for probably about six months,” before deciding on the former Blush boutique location on Main Street, Morisette said. The process to renovate the new space also took some time.
Morisette and Mooney said the owners added a bathroom, and a bar for serving nutritional shakes and teas, as well as repainting and doing other work on the space. Mooney said one of the good things about the new location is that there’s a friendly atmosphere and room for people to drop in.
“It’s just more wide-open,” he said.
So far, things have been going well, Morisette said.
“We’ve increased our business,” she said.
Mooney said part of it is likely being on Main Street. “We have more visibility now.”
Besides having a good location, the new Southwest Nutrition has plenty of parking in the back, and more space for health and fitness activities.
“We have more room for meetings, like nutrition talks,” Morisette said, and Southwest Nutrition is now offering Zumba sessions three times a week. Morisette said the owners also hope to start some programs like fitness camps.
