Detours for bridge construction start today

MARSHALL — Construction begins today on two Marshall bridges — one on Minnesota Highway 19 (East College Drive) near the intersection with West Marshall Street, and one on Minnesota Highway 68 over the Redwood River diversion channel.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation said detours will be in place for both bridges. Traffic on Minnesota Highway 19 is being detoured onto U.S. Highway 59 and Minnesota Highway 23.

Traffic on Highway 68 is being detoured onto two alternate routes, MnDOT said. Traffic can take Lyon County Road 33 and Minnesota Highway 23, or County Road 33 and Highway 59.

Both projects are expected to be completed in mid-June, weather permitting. MnDOT said construction will include rehabilitation of the Highway 19 bridge, a historic bridge dating back to the 1930s. On the Highway 68 bridge, construction will include resurfacing work and replacement of the bridge rails.

MnDOT is asking motorists to slow down and pay attention while driving through work zones. Further road and construction information is available at www.511mn.org.
