Marshall releases bios of city admin finalists

MARSHALL — The city of Marshall has released more details on the six finalist candidates in the search for a new city administrator.

Based on short biographies in a Wednesday news release, the finalists include a mix of Minnesota and non-Minnesota residents, with one candidate from southwest Minnesota — Sharon Hanson, the current Pipestone County administrator.

The names of six finalist candidates were released Tuesday afternoon, after members of the Marshall City Council met to choose city administrator applicants to interview. In alphabetical order, the finalists are Stephen Daly, Sharon Hanson, William McCabe, Phillip Moore, Mark Vahlsing and Fred Ventresco.

Interviews with the finalists will take place Oct. 2-3, with a public open house to meet the finalists on Oct. 2, said Marshall interim city administrator Sheila Dubs.

Stephen Daly is currently a senior consultant for Municipal Resources, Inc., of Meredith, N.H. In the past, Daly has worked as town manager for the city of Bedford, N.H., and for the Metropolitan Area Planning Council in Boston, Mass., the news release said.

Sharon Hanson is the administrator for Pipestone County, where she has worked for 12 years. In the past, she has worked as an account manager for MacNeil Environmental in Burnsville, and as the environmental health department head for the former Lincoln, Lyon, Murray, Pipestone Public Health service, the news release said.

William McCabe is currently the city administrator for St. Augusta. In the past, McCabe has also worked as city administrator for St. Charles, and as city administrator for Red Lake Falls, the news release said.

Phillip Moore most recently served as city administrator in Alma, Michigan, a position he held for 12 years. Before that, Moore worked as the assistant city manager and finance director in Alma, and he also served as controller for Olivet College in Olivet, Michigan, the news release said.

Mark Vahlsing is currently city administrator for Kenyon. In the past, Vahlsing has worked as city administrator in Moose Lake, as the executive director of the Minnesota chapter of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials, as city administrator in Monroe, Wisconsin, and as city administrator in Pine Island, Minnesota, the news release said.

Fred Ventresco is currently town manager for the town of Limestone, Maine. Before that, he held temporary and consulting positions, and served as town administrator in Weare, New Hampshire, the news release said.
