Livestock lost in Russell barn fire

RUSSELL — A barn was destroyed in an early Tuesday morning fire near Russell, the Russell Fire Department said. While there were no human injuries reported, there were livestock lost in the fire, said Russell Fire Chief Mark DeBeer.

“The building was a total loss,” DeBeer said.

The fire was reported at 4:28 a.m., at a rural Russell farm. A Lyon County incident summary said the fire call came from an address near Lyon County Road 13.

The Russell Fire Department was joined by other area fire departments to help put out the fire, DeBeer said.

“We had four departments in mutual aid for water and manpower,” he said.

The cause of the barn fire is not known at this time, DeBeer said. The fire is being investigated by the state Fire Marshal’s office, he said.
