MARSHALL — The Legacy Foundation of Marshall, founded by John Drown in 2011, hosted its first team Best Ball Scramble golf tournament at the Marshall Golf Course Wednesday.
There were 64 golfers competing for prizes for hole-in-one on holes No. 4 and 10 as well as best score.
This year the hole-in-one prize was $500 cash.
Proceeds of the event will go toward the various projects and programs sponsored by the foundation. The programs include the monthly motivational luncheons with guest speakers, leadership roundtables, Leadercast, the fall pastor recognition dinner, youth leadership and a prayer ministry.
The monthly Legacy Luncheon is on the first Monday of every month from noon-1 p.m. at the Marshall YMCA. The meeting and speaker are free, but there is a $10 fee for the lunch. The attendees are able to listen to area speakers talk about their spiritual life.
Drown said that the local celebrities that have spoken recently include Marty Seifert, Brian Knochenmus and Bruce Saugstad.
“We’ve also had some from the Twin Cities, St. Cloud and Sioux Falls, (South Dakota),” Drown said.
Leadership Roundtable is a 6-session encounter for leaders who desire to integrate their work and faith and develop practical and spiritual tools to become skilled “Servant Leaders.” The goal of the Leadership Roundtable is personal and professional transformation, which leads to community transformation.
“It gives opportunities for people to walk in their faith,” Legacy board member Kim Snow said. “Even if your place of employment doesn’t let you talk about God, you can still walk out the Christian lifestyle. You can be the hands and feet of Christ without always talking scriptures.”
Leadercast is a live daylong leadership broadcast held each May. It features several nationally known speakers.
In addition to the hundreds of area leaders attending to sharpen their workplace, community and family leadership skills, Legacy Foundation also sponsors about 100 student leaders to attend at no cost, the pamphlet said.
“In November of each year we gather along with Marshall area pastors for a special evening dinner with entertainment to express our appreciation for how our pastors serve the body of Christ,” Drown said.
Under Youth Leadership, the Legacy Foundation supports youth leadership development opportunities with groups such as the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Past efforts have brought Christian concerts into the community.
The Legacy prayer ministry is an opportunity for foundation members to pray for organizations, businesses and individuals. Each month the Monday meeting attendees lift up a specific person or organization in prayer. They love to encourage people and are willing to come onsite to pray at your place of business.
Legacy Board members attending the tournament included Cynthia Rogers, Heather Radke, Kim Sanow, Patty Ebnet, John Drown, Bruce Saugstad, Brian Hart, Greg Pavek and Lee Warne. Three members were not at the tournament.
