Editor’s Note: This story is the latest in a series that reflect the contributions made by Marshall High School graduates when they returned to the community.

MARSHALL — Chace Pollock of Marshall is one of those homegrown guys who came back to his hometown to live and work near his relatives and raise his own family.

“I still have family living in the area so it’s nice to be close to them,” he said. “Marshall is also a great place to raise a family so for us it’s a no-brainer.”

A 2004 graduate of Marshall High school, Pollock went on to college to become a teacher.

“I went to Saint John’s University from 2004 to 2008,” he said. “I graduated with a degree in social sciences. I student taught through SMSU (Southwest Minnesota State University) and graduated with an elementary education degree in 2009. I also have my masters degree from Saint Mary’s, which I attained in 2013.”

Pollock taught for one year in Minneota before taking a job at West Side Elementary in Marshall. He also worked at the Boys and Girls Club in St. Cloud for two years and was a junior high basketball coach at St. John’s Preparatory School, Collegeville, for four winters.

“Currently I am a third-grade teacher at West Side Elementary.” Pollock said. “I have been here for five years now. This is also my fourth year as a MHS (Marshall High School) baseball coach.

“Being a teacher and coach, you have a chance (make) a positive impact on someone’s life every day,” he added. “It’s a very rewarding profession and something that brings me happiness.”

Besides teaching, Pollock is involved in the Big Buddies program, is an assistant football coach for the Tiger football team, head baseball coach for Marshall, and the senior director for the youth baseball program in town.

What does Pollock find most satisfying about having returned to Marshall?

“I think having the ability to impact the youth of a community is a fulfilling job,” he said. “When it’s a community you grew up in, it means that much more.”

Pollock is married to Emily, who is a fifth-grade teacher at the middle school. They have two children: Decker, 3, and Braelynn,1, who get to spend time with grandparents because they live in Marshall.
