Russian woman carried Ukraine placard
MILAN (AP) — A Russian woman in Milan made a quiet protest against the war by leading Ukraine’s Olympic team into the stadium. On Monday, Anastasia Kucherova told the AP that she carried the Ukraine placard at the Milan Cortina opening ceremony. She stayed anonymous under the same coat and glasses as other sign bearers. She said that she mounted the small act of resistance to let Ukrainians know not all Russians support the invasion. Although she lives in Italy, Kucherova said she understands that speaking out carries risks should she ever return to Russia, but she said if she cannot speak from a democratic nation, “the regime has won.”
