Gunman at large in Australia after leaving 3 dead and 1 wounded

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — A gunman is at large after a shooting in an Australian town that left three people dead and another wounded. Emergency services were called to two locations at Lake Cargelligo in New South Wales state on Thursday following reports of shooting. Police say two women and a man are dead, and another man was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition. The shooter fled in vehicle. Police urged the public to avoid the area and for local residents to stay inside. The shooting came on a National Day of Mourning as Australia remembers the 15 people shot dead at a Hannukah celebration in Sydney on Dec. 14.

KARACHI, Pakistan (AP) — Police and hospital officials say the death toll from a devastating fire at a shopping plaza in Pakistan’s southern city of Karachi has jumped to 67 after body parts of dozens more people were found. Police surgeon Dr. Summaiya Syed says that rescue teams are still searching the severely damaged Gul Plaza in Karachi, where the blaze erupted on Saturday. She said most victims were discovered in fragmented remains, making identification extremely difficult, but that the deaths of 67 people have been confirmed.
