Israel says it has received another set of human remains from militants in Gaza
DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — Israel says it has received human remains that Palestinian militants handed over to the Red Cross, but it is not immediately clear if they are one of three hostages remaining in the Gaza Strip. The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday the remains will be taken for forensic testing and identification. The handover is the latest under the fragile ceasefire that took effect on Oct. 10. Palestinian Islamic Jihad said it found the remains earlier this week in Nuseirat, a refugee camp in central Gaza. The remaining hostages yet to be handed over are two Israelis and a man from Thailand.
4 more arrested in $102M Louvre jewel heist, Paris prosecutor says
PARIS (AP) — The Paris prosecutor has announced four more arrests in connection with the $102 million jewel heist at the Louvre Museum. The arrests involve two men and two women from the Paris region, aged 31 to 40. The prosecutor, Laure Beccuau, did not specify their roles in the October 19 theft. French media report that one of those arrested, a 39-year-old man, is believed to be the fourth member of the team thought to have carried out the daring daylight robbery. The stolen jewels have not been recovered. Police have previously arrested other suspected members of the so-called “commando” team. Investigating magistrates have filed preliminary charges against three men and one woman arrested in October.
Pakistan denies Afghanistan’s claims of airstrikes killing 10 people, mostly children
KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Afghanistan’s Taliban government has accused Pakistan of launching overnight strikes in three eastern provinces, killing 10 civilians. The military in Pakistan has denied the Afghan claims, saying no such strikes were carried out. The Afghan government’s chief spokesperson said Tuesday that Pakistan “bombed” the home of a civilian in Khost province, killing nine children and a woman. He says additional strikes were carried out in the provinces of Kunar and Paktika, injuring four others. Pakistan’s denial of an attack comes more than a month after cross-border clashes erupted when the Afghan government claimed Pakistani drone strikes hit Kabul.
24 schoolgirls abducted from Kebbi in Nigeria have been rescued, president says
SOKOTO, Nigeria (AP) — Nigeria’s president says that all 24 schoolgirls held by assailants following a mass abduction last week from a school in Kebbi in northwestern Nigeria have been rescued. A total of 25 girls were abducted on Nov. 17 from a government school in Kebbi state’s Maga town, but one of them was able to escape the same day. The remaining 24 were all rescued, according to a statement from President Bola Tinubu, though no details were released about the rescue. It was among a spate of recent mass abductions, including a raid on a Catholic school Friday in north-central Niger state in which more than 300 students and staff were abducted. Fifty students later escaped.
