Uribe’s father launches presidential bid
BOGOTA, Colombia (AP) — The father of Miguel Uribe, the Colombian presidential candidate fatally shot at a political rally earlier this year, has launched a campaign for Colombia’s presidency. He says his campaign is an effort to keep his son’s legacy alive and build a safer and more prosperous Colombia. The 72-year-old Miguel Uribe Londoño announced his candidacy with a speech outside the congressional building where his son became a well-known senator. Uribe Londoño is running under the conservative party his son belonged to, the Democratic Center. The former politician gained new prominence while making a speech at his son’s funeral decrying what he called a descent into madness under the current left-wing president.
