Israel strikes state-run Iranian TV during live broadcast after Iranian missiles kill 8

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel struck Iran’s state-run television station during a live broadcast, forcing a reporter to run off camera following an explosion, after Iran fired a new wave of missiles at Israel that killed at least eight people. Israel warned hundreds of thousands of people in the middle of Tehran to evacuate Monday ahead of the strike against the TV station, which the military said provided a cover for Iranian military operations. The warning came on the fourth day of the conflict, when the Israeli military claimed it had achieved air superiority above the Iranian capital and could fly over the city without facing major threats. The warning affected up to 330,000 people.

G7 leaders want to contain the Israel-Iran conflict, as Trump calls for talks

KANANASKIS, Alberta (AP) — World leaders at the Group of Seven summit in Canada scrambled Monday to find a way to contain the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran. President Donald Trump repeated his belief that Tehran already had a chance for negotiations and needed to return to the bargaining table before it was “too late.” The U.S. president said that Iranian leaders would “like to talk” but they had “60 days” to reach an agreement to curb their development of nuclear weapons, but they failed to do so before an Israeli aerial assault began four years ago. German Chancellor Friedrich Merz wants a joint statement from Europe that would stress Iran cannot be allowed to acquire nuclear weapons-capable material.

UN nuclear agency warns of possible contamination inside Iran’s Natanz site

VIENNA (AP) — The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency says there is a possibility of both radiological and chemical contamination within Iran’s main nuclear enrichment facility in Natanz. IAEA Director-General Rafael Mariano Grossi said Monday that radiation levels outside the complex are presently normal. Grossi said that the radiation poses a significant danger if uranium is inhaled or ingested. He added that the risk can be effectively managed with appropriate protective measures like using respiratory protection devices while inside the facilities. Satellite photos analyzed by The Associated Press show extensive damage at Natanz after Friday’s strikes.

Death toll from an attack by gunmen in north-central Nigeria reaches 150, survivors say

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — The death toll from an attack by gunmen in north-central Nigeria over the weekend has climbed to 150. Villagers were still digging through burned structures on Monday, counting their dead and looking for the dozens still missing. The previous death toll stood at 100. Assailants stormed Benue state’s Yelewata community late on Friday night, opening fire on villagers who were asleep and setting their homes ablaze, survivors and the local farmers union said. Many of those killed were sheltering in a local market after fleeing violence in other parts of the state. Nigeria’s President Bola Tinubu described the attack as “senseless bloodletting.” His office has said he will visit the community on Wednesday.
