Israeli nationalists chant ‘death to Arabs’
JERUSALEM (AP) — Groups of Israeli Jews chanting “Death to Arabs” have made their way through Muslim neighborhoods of Jerusalem’s Old City. It’s part of an annual march marking Israel’s conquest of the eastern part of the city. Palestinian shopkeepers closed up early Monday. Police lined the narrow alleys ahead of the march that often becomes a rowdy and sometimes violent procession of ultranationalist Jews. Meanwhile, a small group of protesters stormed a compound in east Jerusalem belonging to the U.N. agency for Palestinian refugees. They included an Israeli member of parliament. The events threaten to inflame tensions amid nearly 600 days of war in Gaza.
