Judge: Travelers can sue TSA over screener mistreatment

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A U.S. appeals court says travelers can sue the government over mistreatment by federal airport screeners because the agents can act like law enforcement officers, including when they conduct invasive searches. The 9-4 decision Friday by the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturned earlier rulings and is a setback for the Transportation Security Administration and its screeners. US stock indexes end mixed to close out a volatile month

Major U.S. stock indexes ended little changed Friday after a listless day of trading ahead of the Labor Day holiday weekend capped a solid week of gains for the market. A late-afternoon flurry of buying gave the S&P 500 its third straight gain. The benchmark index also snapped a string of four consecutive weekly losses. United removes Boeing Max from schedule until December

United Airlines is again delaying the expected return date for its grounded Boeing 737 Max jets. The airline said Friday that it has removed the Max from its schedule until Dec. 19, six weeks longer than previously planned. United owns 14 Max jets, which have been grounded since March after the second of two accidents that together killed 346 people. EPA moves to revoke rules on oil industry methane leaks

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Trump administration moved Thursday to revoke regulations on methane leaks from oil facilities, a proposal environmental advocates said would renounce key federal authority to regulate the climate-damaging gas. COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The multibillion-dollar settlement that the maker of OxyContin is negotiating to settle a crush of lawsuits over the nation’s opioid crisis contains formulas for dividing up the money among state and local governments across the country, The Associated Press has learned.
