Avera Marshall introduces VP of mission services

Avera Marshall Regional Medical Center welcomes LuAnn Trutwin as the Vice President of Mission Services.

Trutwin comes to Avera with 15 years of ministry experience and is a board-certified chaplain through the National Association of Catholic Chaplains.

She earned a bachelor’s degree from College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, and a master of divinity degree from St. John’s School of Theology and Seminary in Collegeville. She also completed Ed.D. Pastoral Community Counseling coursework at Argosy University in Pittsburgh, Penn., and will complete her doctorate of ministry from Seattle University in spring 2019. And she holds an ethics associate certificate from Catholic Health Initiatives and an advance care planning certificate from Gunderson Health.

Trutwin worked in chaplaincy for several years at Minneapolis Children’s Hospital, Essentia Health in Brainerd, and St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. She also held leadership roles with CHI facilities in Minnesota and Nebraska and most recently served as the regional director of mission integration at Providence St. Joseph Health & Services in Oregon. In addition, Trutwin was recommended and continues to serve as an interview training educator with NACC.

As vice president of mission services, Trutwin is responsible for the executive leadership of mission integration in the Avera Marshall region. She works with staff, physicians and board members to manage efforts aimed at:

• Education on the Avera history, heritage, mission, vision, values and charismatic spirit

• Governance and leadership formation

• Strategic planning and community benefit

• Pastoral and spiritual care

• Ethics and social justice education

• Integrated mission planning

“I am privileged and honored to be part of the continuing mission the Benedictine and Presentation Sisters brought here more than 100 years ago,” Trutwin said. “The mission and values of Avera have deep meaning and purpose to me. Moving to the Midwest from Oregon, being led to Avera by God to do his work, I feel connected with the Sisters and the journey God called them to make from Ireland and Switzerland to serve people here in the Midwest. I am grateful to carry on the energy, persistence, determination and faith of the Sisters.”

“We are pleased to have LuAnn join our team,” said Mary Maertens, regional president and CEO, Avera Marshall. “Every successful mission-based organization has a leader in this role, and we value LuAnn’s leadership in furthering our mission and ministry within our organization and community.”
