SWWC Service Cooperative (SWWC) welcomed nationally recognized literacy expert Dr. Stephanie Stollar to its Marshall office on Aug.7 for a highly attended professional development workshop focused on improving reading outcomes for students. The event, Reading Assessment Done Right, brought together approximately 45 educators from across the region and state for a full day of learning and collaboration.
Stollar is the founder of Reading Science Academy and co-author of Reading Assessment Done Right. During the workshop, she shared evidence-based practices for selecting, interpreting, and using reading assessments to inform instruction and accelerate student growth. Participants gained practical tools and strategies they can immediately apply in classrooms, intervention settings, and school systems.
The workshop attracted teachers, literacy coaches, interventionists, and school leaders seeking to deepen their understanding of assessment practices aligned with the science of reading. The strong attendance highlighted the growing emphasis on literacy achievement and effective instructional decision-making throughout Minnesota schools.
“We were thrilled to host Dr. Stollar and provide this learning opportunity for educators in our region,” said Liz Deen, senior director of Teaching and Learning at SWWC. “Her expertise, practical approach, and commitment to improving literacy outcomes resonated deeply with participants. The positive feedback we’ve received demonstrates the impact of high-quality professional learning experiences like this one.”
Following the event, educators received access to workshop resources and presentation materials to support implementation of the strategies shared throughout the day. Attendees also had the opportunity to connect directly with Dr. Stollar and have copies of her book signed.
SWWC’s Teaching and Learning Services team continues to provide professional development opportunities that support educators and strengthen student outcomes across the region. The success of the workshop underscores SWWC’s commitment to bringing nationally recognized experts and evidence-based practices to local schools and educators.
