SMSU to host Children’s Theater and High School Theater Workshop productions
Southwest Minnesota State University, in partnership with Marshall Community Services and P.S. Productions, will host the annual productions by the SMSU Children’s Theater on Friday, June 13, and the High School Theater Workshop on Friday, June 13 and Saturday, June 14.
Led by SMSU Theater Professor Sheila Tabaka since 2018, the SMSU Children’s Theater Workshop provides acting, production, and costuming opportunities for grades 3-8 and for grades 9-12 through the High School Theater Workshop every summer.
The Children’s Theater began Monday, June 2 with workshops each day Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-noon. The High School Workshop also started June 2, meeting Monday-Friday from 1:30-4:30 p.m. at the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre. The culmination of the workshops is the public performances.
The Children’s Theater, in conjunction with Marshall Community Services, has been working on the production of “Treasure Island: The Musical” by Nick Perrin and Ruth Kenward with permission from Starshine Music Productions.
The High School Workshop has been preparing for their production “The Great American Talent Show” by Joseph Robinette, presented in conjunction with the Marshall Community Services and P.S. Productions.
The SMSU Children’s Theater Workshop presents “Treasure Island: The Musical” on Friday, June 13 at 9:30 a.m., 11 a.m., and 6:30 p.m. The High School workshop presents “The Great American Talent Show” on Friday, June 13, at 8 p.m. and Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m. Admission for all shows is “pay what you can” at the door. All performances are in the SMSU Fine Arts Theatre.
