Minnesota West’s Miller recognized at Board of Trustees Awards Program as an Outstanding Educator

Minnesota West Community & Technical College – Minnesota West Medical Lab Technology & Phlebotomy instructor Dr. Rita Miller, was recognized as an Outstanding Educator for 2020 at the Minnesota State Board of Trustees Award Program held April 21. At the awards program Minnesota State recognized Outstanding Educators for 2020 from college and universities that are part of the system. This honor acknowledges and rewards exceptional individual professional accomplishment and encourages ongoing excellence in teaching.

Miller competed with approximately 40 other nominees from fellow Minnesota State institutions from across the state. Nominations were based on criteria such as innovative program delivery, cooperation and partnerships within and outside of the college, campus involvement/leadership, and community involvement/leadership.

“Rita is truly an outstanding educator, going above and beyond to serve her students and program. She has shown unwavering commitment to Minnesota West and her students over the last 20-plus years, and is highly respected by fellow colleagues and the health care industry. She consistently demonstrates patience, kindness, and dedication to her students. Most importantly, she has the drive and dedication to continue learning, serving, and growing professionally. Rita demonstrates that excellent in teaching is an ongoing process, and something to be sought after over a lifetime. The students and faculty strongly support Rita and believe she embodies excellence in teaching, and is truly deserving of this award,” said Jackie Otkin, dean of Allied Health.
