Family weekend Sept. 20-22

Family weekend will take place this weekend at Southwest Minnesota State University.

SMSU sets aside a weekend every year for students to invite parents, siblings, grandparents and family members to campus to take part in a fun-filled weekend of events and activities.

A soccer game versus Augustana kicks things off at 6 p.m. on Friday. A Take 2 Improv theater show will be at 8 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre.

On Saturday, a brunch buffet will be at 11:30 a.m. in the Conference Center, lower level, with a welcome from President Kumara Jayasuriya.

Later on Saturday, the Mustang football team entertains Sioux Falls at 1 p.m. at the Schwan Regional Event Center. There is a Chemistry Club Magic Show followed by liquid nitrogen ice cream from 1-2:30 p.m., and free play in the Mustang Zone from 3-6 p.m.

On Sunday, The Coffeehouse will be open from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., and the Mustang soccer tea hosts Wayne State at 1 p.m.

From 5-7 p.m. will be an “Adopt-A-College Family” event. Students can enjoy a meal and fun activities and meet community families who can help make them feel more at home during the academic year. Hot dogs and potluck side dishes will be served in the plaza area near the Schwan Regional Event Center.
