Rely on God’s Word

Making decisions based on what history has taught us, was the “better way” a reader felt, responding to my thought that the best decisions are made when we live according to God’s will as written in the Bible.

I agree that errors are made when people mistakenly do what they think God’s will is. We need to rely on God’s Word, not our reason.

There have been times, however, when following God’s will or not was vital before history was made. When God saw that only 8 people were left who still worshipped Him, he told Noah to build an ark so that he and his family could be saved from a world-wide flood. People had time to turn back to God, but they did not.

In Moses’ time, God gave the Pharaoh of Egypt nine opportunities to listen to Him. The tenth plague changed Pharoah’s mind, but it was too late for him to learn from history. In all Egyptian households the oldest person or animal in each family died, including Pharaoh’s son.

Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.” (Matthew 16:24)

God is always ready to forgive when we turn back to Him. He gave us His Word, and in His Word we find what pleases Him as we live until Jesus’ returns.
